This one had two requirements that usually pull against each other: a patio sealed properly against insects, and a dog that comes and goes as it pleases.
The enclosure
A Texas style build in 1x2 and 2x2 aluminium extrusion, with horizontal chair rails and vertical splits sized to the bay spacing. Slim profile, so the frame reads as a line rather than a wall, and the view out of the back of the house survives intact.
The details that made it work
A dog door built into the panel at the point the dog already used, kick plates along the base where the frame takes knocks, and a hinged screen door on the run out to the yard.
The open side
One elevation was left to a motorized screen instead of fixed mesh, so it can be dropped for shade and privacy and raised completely when the weather is worth having. Enclosure hardware carries a limited lifetime warranty, the fabric ten to fifteen years depending on the mesh.
