A San Marcos patio that became a room

Wide openings and wind are what separate a screen room that lasts from one that starts rattling in its second summer.

Why the heavy frame

This build uses 1x3 and 2x3 aluminium extrusion rather than the slimmer Texas style sections. The extra depth is what lets the frame span a wider bay without intermediate posts cluttering the view, and it is what holds its line on an exposed site.

How it was finished

Clean corner transitions rather than exposed brackets, a French screen door on the garden side, and the frame colour matched to the fascia so the enclosure sits inside the existing architecture. From the yard it reads as a room that was always there.

What it does

Insects out, and fabric selected in the fifty to eighty percent solar range so the space stays usable through the middle of the day without going dark. Hardware carries a limited lifetime warranty.
